Please can you introduce yourself and explain your role within Learning Design and how long you have been working for the company?

I have been working in the Learning Design team at Resource Group for almost 18 months after a career as a teacher and mentor to aspiring teachers. My role primarily focuses on the upgrade of Resource Group courseware for our aircraft maintenance engineer courses. I also work on writing engaging content for e-learning courses and face-to-face training.

Have you always had a background in Learning Design?

I have been designing and delivering learning for almost ten years. It’s always been my passion to create content that engages, motivates and inspires. Prior to teaching, I used to work in marketing communications and sponsorship.

Is there a project you have or currently working on that you really enjoy?

I love working in the redesign and rewrite of our Part-66 courseware. We have identified exciting areas for improvement: injecting more pedagogy and learning design thinking into our notes to give students an even better learning experience. Working with SMEs and our learning design team on updated content and layout is really inspiring and rewarding. Seeing the new books used by students and receiving their positive feedback motivates us to continually improve!

Do you think COVID-19 will have an impact on Learning Design?

It already has had a massive impact. We have seen a great transformation in the way learners now have to access their learning material and instructors. The migration to online teaching and learning has been fast and a great learning curve for our delivery team and creates more opportunities for our e-learning offering to expand.

What are the benefits of converting face to face training to virtual delivery?

Virtual or online training offers a range of benefits for both the learner and the instructor. Whilst Covid-19 now imposes that we learn from home, as time passes, we might find that some clients may prefer online delivery and save on travel and expenses, maximising their time and impact in the workplace. Virtual learning allows for a more personalised learning experience with LMS or online platforms that allow tailored learning tasks to be assigned to different learners.

Virtual learning allows for the way learning face-to-face should be: a flipped classroom, where learners are in charge of their learning and where contact time can be spent practising concepts and boosting progress. Without the atmosphere and banter of the classroom, we can make learning even more efficient and interactive.
