Supply Chain Training Course

Our customer required a training course to equip individuals (initially for school leavers and later for military personnel) with the required knowledge and skills to enable them to be deployed within the Supply Chain division.

DSAT (Defence Systems Approach to Training) methodology was applied during the design of this programme. The course objectives and outcomes were mapped to determine relevant modules, which enabled our team to work toward blended objectives and incorporate the fundamental Supply Chain principles, as well as the bespoke elements of the course. The design team included a subject matter expert, who had worked in a similar environment and had experience with the same systems. This ensured that the training developed reflected the most current documentation and regulations. Open communication was maintained throughout the project, which ensured that the design was constantly aligned with our customer’s processes and streamlined production.

In-depth research was carried out to verify current supply chain practices to ensure the correct level of content was included in the course material. A non-native, English-speaking expert linguist was utilised to provide insight as to the appropriate writing style and language to use within the courseware, to ensure that content was easy to understand and met course objectives. A comprehensive curriculum specification was produced outlining each modular objective, outcomes and key learning points. Additional classroom activities were produced to allow the learners on the programme to reflect on their learning journey, anchor the key learning point and  share ideas with others in the class. Short assessments were produced for each module, allowing the learner and instructor to assess progress and understanding of the content. The course includes several practical on-base visits and a workplace experience module, allowing the learners to apply certain learning points in a practical environment. We also developed a learner logbook to record the learner’s practical knowledge. The logbook is required at the end of the program, enabling the learner to earn an industry approved certification.

Throughout the design and development process, a continuous improvement methodology was applied, allowing our team to apply additional comments and suggestions after the first delivery. The course is now in its second delivery phase, and the client, instructors and learners are very pleased with the layout and flow of the course. We have received very positive feedback which is reflected in the student results. The course is accredited by the industry body, CILT (Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport), and has passed their stamp of approval. The learners also have an opportunity to register with CILT and become student members, affiliate member, graduate member, and later in their careers, charted member and chartered fellow.
